Legendary outlaw?\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n [Star-Lord to Korath in <\/span>Guardians of the Galaxy<\/span><\/i>]<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Star-Lord is one of the most recognizable (and funniest) characters from the Marvel Universe.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Although he has been around for over 40 years, his character has become extremely popular in recent years thanks to his appearances in the <\/span>Guardians of the Galaxy<\/span><\/i><\/a> movies and other <\/span>Marvel Cinematic Universe projects<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n But who is Star-Lord really and why did he become a fan favorite?\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We\u2019ll take a look at Star-Lord\u2019s background, explore his powers and abilities and analyze his relationships with other characters.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n (This blog contains spoilers, so if you\u2019re not yet familiar with the adventures of the one and only Star-Lord, this is your sign that it\u2019s time to blast off into the wondrous world of the beloved character!)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Uncover the battle raging within. Read the BIOWARS comic book!<\/a><\/p>\n Star-Lord\u2019s character was introduced in <\/span><\/b>Marvel Preview #4<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/a> in 1976.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He was born <\/span>Peter Quill <\/span><\/b>in the late 20th century to <\/span>Meredith<\/span><\/b> \u2014 a human, and <\/span>J\u2019son<\/span><\/b> \u2014 the Spartax Emperor.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n His father left the Earth before Peter was born and his mother raised him as a single parent.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Since childhood, Peter was always fascinated by all things sci-fi. He <\/span>dreamt of becoming an astronaut<\/span><\/b> and exploring space.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When he was ten years old, his mother was murdered by Badoon aliens. They wanted to kill Peter to end J\u2019son\u2019s bloodline, but instead, Peter killed the aliens who were chasing him, using his father\u2019s gun.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The rest of the aliens then destroyed Peter\u2019s house and they believed he was dead.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Peter survived and was put in an orphanage. He then struggled to find a good foster home, but things started to look up for him when he <\/span>joined<\/span><\/b> NASA as a mechanic<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n At NASA, Peter secretly trained on simulators whenever he could.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When he was discharged after a fight with an astronaut, Peter <\/span>stole a Kree ship<\/span><\/b> and went to space.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n That event was a <\/span>turning point in Peter\u2019s life<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Soon after he left the Earth, Peter\u2019s ship broke.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He then came across a pirate crew of the Ravagers led by <\/span>Yondu<\/span><\/b>, who wanted to steal Peter\u2019s ship.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The two fought, but eventually, Peter joined Yondu\u2019s crew as a cleaning boy and used his time with the Ravagers to learn as much as he could about space.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n At one point, Peter even met his father, J\u2019son, and learned that he had a birthright to become <\/span>Star-Lord.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n J\u2019son wanted Peter to rule the galaxy with him, but Peter disliked that idea.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He continued to travel through space, but not to steal for Yondu; instead, he wanted to right the wrongs others did.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n After the Phalanx invasion of the Kree, <\/span>Star-Lord decided to assemble a team of heroes that would protect the galaxy<\/span><\/b> and prevent the wars from happening.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He joined forces with Adam Warlock, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Phyla-Vell, and Mantis as support and <\/span>formed a new version of the<\/span><\/b> Guardians of the Galaxy! <\/span><\/b>(The initial roaster appeared in <\/span>Marvel Super-Heroes #18<\/span><\/i><\/a>.)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Although this origin story of Peter Quill is by far the most popular one, we mustn\u2019t forget about the story in which the <\/span>Master of the Sun<\/span><\/b>, i.e., the Lord of the entire solar system, gave the powers of Star-Lord to Peter Quill.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Master of the Sun gave Peter a suit, which allowed him to breathe in space, and a gun that could shoot four elements \u2014\u202fair, water, fire and earth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Becoming Star-Lord enabled Peter to avenge his mother\u2019s death.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n [Photo credit: Marvel Studios<\/a>]<\/p><\/div>\n Star-Lord is the <\/span>leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He brings the team together and leads them on a quest of protecting the Universe from the bad guys.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Together, Peter and the Guardians have played a major role in a number of Marvel\u2019s storylines, both in comics and the movies, including:<\/span><\/p>\nStar-Lord\u2019s Backstory<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n
