The Fault in Our Stars. The Notebook. A Walk to Remember. Even if you\u2019re a fan, it\u2019s clear that fiction has been a cesspool of some of the sappiest modern day love stories to date. Likewise, comics have had their fair share of iconic relationships, but not all of them have been particularly super. With Valentine\u2019s Day on the horizon, we\u2019re showing that finding love can be just as hard for superheroes as it is for the average Joe by listing 5 of the weirdest, inappropriate relationships that have ever graced the panels of a comic book.<\/p>\n

1) Scott Summers (Cyclops) & Madelyne Pryor<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Do you have an old relationship you can\u2019t seem to get over? Don\u2019t worry – It\u2019s more common than you think. Take Scott Summers of the X-Men, the better half of our 5th<\/sup> comic pairing, for example. Reeling from the loss of his \u201cone true love\u201d Jean Grey, Scott takes the plunge, and starts playing the field again. He inadvertently meets Madelyne Pryor, and becomes very interested in her – mostly because of her uncanny resemblance to Jean. Having such a striking resemblance to Jean, Scott believes that Madelyne can only be the reincarnation of Jean, and ultimately marries her. Things take an even weirder turn when it\u2019s revealed that Madelyne is actually a clone of Jean created by Mr. Sinister in order to dismantle the X-Men from the inside out. Sometimes letting go is the most romantic thing you can do.<\/p>\n

2) Ant-Man (Hank Pym) & The Wasp (Janet van Dyne)<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hank Pym isn\u2019t a nice guy. Aside from his pompous attitude, he gets physically abusive with his wife and fellow superhero companion, Janet, during a marital spat. For many readers, this moment was irreconcilable. As if that moment wasn\u2019t bad enough, the \u201cUltimate\u201d version of Ant-Man takes this abuse even further when he attacks Janet, douses her with bug spray, and summons hundreds of ants to attack her while she is in her miniature form.<\/p>\n

3) Scarlet Witch & The Vision<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Proving that love conquers all – even species\u2013 is our third relationship. Avengers Vision & Scarlet Witch met like most superhero loves do \u2013 fighting together in the heat of battle. Together, the two have gone through their share of ups and downs, from the birth of two children to Scarlet Witch mystically destroying Vision. Regardless, the duo is one of Marvel\u2019s longest running relationships yet.<\/p>\n

Oh, and in case you didn\u2019t know, The Vision is a robot. Witch or not, this relationship definitely lacked the romantic magic readers were accustomed to seeing.<\/p>\n

4) The Joker & Harley Quinn<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Coming in our #2 spot is The Joker & Harley Quinn. There are few relationships in comics as dynamic as Harley and \u201cMistah J\u2019s\u201d, and even fewer that are as warped. Originally working as a psychologist in Arkham Asylum, Harley met the Joker and quickly became enamored with him. Aiding in his escape, the pair leave Arkham and become partners in crime. Aside from changing her entire life for him, Harley has repeatedly been mentally and physically abused by the Joker, making this relationship no laughing matter.<\/p>\n

5) Deadpool & Death<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

For all of their deaths and revivals, some superheroes seem to have a love affair with death. For fan-favorite Deadpool, this statement is literally true. Equipped with a healing factor that makes it incapable for him to die, Marvel\u2019s personification of Death has developed a strange fascination and love for Deadpool. Strangely enough, Deadpool has reciprocated levels of love, and so, does what he can to lose his healing ability to be with the entity he loves.
