These two successors fought crime in the shadows of giants, and emerged as legendary heroes in their own right. While they have proven themselves time and time again against supervillains, how would they fair against each other?<\/p>\n

\"Batman<\/a><\/p>\n

In the not-too-distant future, Terry McGinnis<\/a> spent much of his youth as a member of a street gang. After a brief stint in juvenile hall, Terry was assaulted by the Jokerz, a group of criminals inspired by the Joker. The odds were against him, but with the aid of an elderly Bruce Wayne, the Jokerz were defeated. When the aged Bruce collapsed from the strain of the fight, Terry took him back to Wayne Manor and stumbled upon the Batcave. When Terry told Bruce about the murder of his father by Bruce\u2019s business partner, Derek Powers, Bruce refused to resume his alter ego. Terry later stole an advanced Batsuit from the cave and attempted to get revenge on Powers. While Wayne stopped Terry mid-attack, he agreed to take him on as a prot\u00e9g\u00e9, and to train him as the new Batman.<\/p>\n

In the Batman Beyond<\/a> episode \u201cOut of the Past,\u201d an aging Bruce Wayne is confronted by his eternally youthful paramour, Talia al Ghul, who has used the rejuvenating powers of her father\u2019s Lazarus Pit to remain forever young. Talia offered Bruce the chance to return to his prime, and while he initially refused, he eventually relented. Terry, suspicious of the arrangement, accompanied them to the Lazarus Pit. After his first dip in the Lazarus Pit, Bruce was already sporting the body of a fit middle-aged man. He even managed to hold his own against Terry when the two sparred together. Even so, Bruce began to regret his decision, and decided leave the compound before finishing his Lazarus Pit regimen. However, they were attacked by League of Assassins agents attempting to keep them prisoner. For the first time, Terry and Bruce team up physically to defeat the assassins, both proving their worth as superheroes. Talia reveals that she is in fact Ra\u2019s al Ghul inhabiting his daughter\u2019s body, and tries to transfer his mind into Bruce\u2019s next. Terry defeats the Demon\u2019s Head, and escapes with Bruce as the compound explodes.<\/p>\n

\"Spider-Man<\/a><\/p>\n

A gifted geneticist working for mega-corporation Alchemax, Miguel O\u2019Hara<\/a> was tasked with creating super-powered soldiers. After his first experiment resulted in the death of the test subject, Miguel offered his resignation. However, he was blackmailed by Alchemax into continuing his research. Not content with his forced employment, Miguel used his machine on himself. During the test, an unscrupulous coworker spliced in 50% of spider DNA in place of human DNA. Now possessing various spider-related powers, Miguel dons a costume and takes up the mantle of his personal hero, Spider-Man.<\/p>\n

In the Superior Spider-Man story arc \u201cNecessary Evil,\u201d Spider-Man 2099 is sent back to the Heroic Age (present day) to investigate fluctuations in the fabric of time. Spider-Man 2099 aids the current Spider-Man (Otto Octavius in the body of Peter Parker) and his comrades at Horizon Labs in stopping saboteur Tiberius Stone and destroying the machine responsible for the temporal instability. With the time machine destroyed, Spider-Man 2099 has no choice but to remain in the present, and joins Horizon Labs as a lab assistant.<\/p>\n
